Knowing Our Position: Recognizing Where Your Ministry Stands in the Kingdom Assignment
771 words, about 4 min read
Understanding your position in the Kingdom is not just a matter of personal spiritual clarity. It has direct implications for everything your ministry does, everything it produces, and everything it is preparing for. We must understand where we are in the Kingdom according to the assignment God has given us.
Consider what is happening right now with technology, translation, and the global reach of the Word. We can take a study guide, press a button, and translate it almost instantly into another language. We can have it read aloud in that language and prepare it for publication. If God is giving His Word that kind of access into the nations, why would we think His power would not accompany His Word?
Throughout Scripture, when God sent His Word, His power went with it. Healing, salvation, miracles, and deliverance confirmed the Word that was being preached. Mark 16:20 records that the disciples "went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following." Acts 8:5-7 shows Philip in Samaria, where the people "with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did." The Word and the power were inseparable.
The Word and the Power Together
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 establishes the standard: "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God." And 1 Corinthians 4:20 settles it: "For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power."
Knowing your position means understanding that you are part of something much larger than your local context. God is positioning His people globally. He is navigating the position of this ministry, and our responsibility is to follow. He is saying, in effect: prepare the school, prepare the tools, prepare the people, prepare the infrastructure. He is navigating, and we are following.
From the beginning, God said this work would be international. So now it is time to think globally. We have to develop a global mentality and understand that we are among those God has called to reach the nations. We are among those called to mentor and disciple people in other countries. What God is establishing is a global church, a way to accomplish online many of the same things we have traditionally done on the ground: winning souls, teaching believers, discipling people, and training them in the ways of God.
Thinking With a Global Mentality
From that work will come people who genuinely walk in the Spirit. They will become missionaries, evangelists, teachers, prophets, pastors, and apostles. They will come from different nations, and they will evangelize their own nations and other nations around the world. Ephesians 4:11-13 describes this fully: "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."
The global mandate is settled, not up for debate. God has a specific plan for each of us. He has chosen us to do His will in our spheres of influence. This calling is not always easy to understand or embrace, as it often involves a route in which faith and character will be greatly tested. However, we are not called to debate these instructions but to bring clarity and discuss the implementation of the plan for global evangelism.
Knowing your position also means recognizing that what you do in your sphere has Kingdom-wide implications. Isaiah 55:11 promises, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." The Word you faithfully minister in your measure will accomplish what God intended. You do not have to see the full picture to be faithful in your portion of it.
The Word may go into places you never physically visit. It may enter nations where Christianity is opposed or persecuted. It can reach people in China, Muslim nations, India, Africa, and throughout the world. Psalm 68:11 declares, "The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it." Your position in the Kingdom is part of that great company. Know it. Own it. Walk in it.
